TMS320F28334: Problem connecting emulator CCSv3.3 XDS100

Part Number: TMS320F28334

I am using a FT2232D USB Interface to program the flash on the on-board TMS320F28334.  I can connect using CCS on my laptop but get an error when using another computer.

The message is:

Error connecting to the target

Error 0x80000240/-604

Fatal error during: Initialization, OCS,

The error was generated by TI's USCIF driver

SC_ERR_LOB_ANY_LOAD <604>

A required dynamic library could not be installed.

The attempt to load or install the library failed.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

  • Fred,

Since the XDS100 works on your laptop we can rule out an issue with the FTDI EEPROM/state.

On the non-working PC if you open a Windows Device manager do you see a population for TI debug probes?  I'm trying to see if the issue is at this level or with CCS.

  • Hi Matthew.  Thanks ver much for the response.  There is an entry for "Texas Instruments XDS560 PCI JTAG Emulator".  The driver is "C:\windows\System32\Drivers\xds560.sys".  This is the same as on the laptop that works.  However, under the Device status, it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)".

  • I checked again on the laptop, and it also says Device cannot start, but it does connect with the DSP.

  • Fred,

Can you take a screenshot of the CCS 3.3 Setup where you've set up the emulator?  Also, I think the XDS560 is an artifact from another emulator install, we need to see the XDS100 in the device manager when it is plugged in(we definitely should see it on the working laptop).

Is the FTDI/XDS100 a separate pod or is it part of your PCB design?

    Best,

    Matthew

  • Hi Matthew,

The FTDI/XDS100 is part of my PCB.  The idea was to be have the emulator on board in case of firmware updates that may be required in the field.

The HMI we are using to install the CCS v3.3 is Windows 7 Embedded.  I'm not sure if that is an issue.  From the error message that appears, it seems that there might be some missing file(s) in the Windows setup.

I downloaded "ti_emupack_setup_9.2.0.00002_win_32.exe" yesterday to see if that would give different options (like XDS100) in the CCS Setup.  Unfortunately, the HMI I was using suffered an internal electrical failure, so I was not able to get any results.  I will try it again today on a different unit.

This is the setup screen.  I use the XDS510 emulator for a different board that we use.  That also gives the same error message as the XDS100 when attempting to connect.

    Thanks for your help.

    Fred

  • Fred,

This thread may be helpful regarding Win 7 install.  https://e2e.ti.com/support/tools/code-composer-studio-group/ccs/f/code-composer-studio-forum/85072/how-to-install-code-composer-studio-v3-3-on-windows-7-64bits

There are some suggestions from other on which compatibility settings and methods to get things working on Win7.

I will add that the F2833x device is fully supported in the newer CCS(Eclipse) based; it looks like CCSv4 is compatible with Win7 if that is of interest.

    Best,

    Matthew
