Hello,

I am using the F280025C + DRV8323 + Universal Lab. and I have no encoder readings, which probably is preventing to be closing the loop on my application.

1 - Hardware

I have S5 on Q1->J12 and Q2->BP

My Encoder is generating Quadrature A and Quadrature B, but no Index information (I, not present).

2 - Software Readings

No Readings on the SpeedENC_Hz

Can you help?

1 - How can I check the micro is able to read the Encoder?

2 - If it is reading, what is missing to update the SpeedENC and close the loop?

1. Follow the lab user's guide to set the switch S5 on LaunchXL board S5 for enabling QEP/CAP on J12 and J13.

2. Run the lab in LEVEL2 to spin the motor or rotate the motor by hand for checking if there are signals on the connector from the encoder.

BTW, the lab can't support the encoder without Index signal for motor control in LEVEL 3 and LEVEL4.

I am following the documentation, but I am having an issue finding a magnetic sensor that provides index information. Do you have any suggestions?

Sorry, you have to use an incremental encoder with Index output for implementing sensored-FOC in this lab. Or you can run the motor with sensorless-FOC if possible.

I have a concept question now.

I am trying to evaluate FOC Motor Control vs. Audible Noise. I noticed a difference comparing the sensorless solution versus sensored.

Comparing the Fast based sensorless-FOC, eSMO based sensorless-FOC, and encoder based sensored-FOC, which one should be the quieter solution?

Also, For the Fast based sensorless-FOC, eSMO based sensorless-FOC, how do they estimate the rotor position?

You might try to use the InstaSPIN-FOC with FAST that could have a better performance than eSMO.

Both FAST and eSMO use the sensing current and voltage to estimate/observe the rotor position according to the mathematics model of the motor. You might take a look at the textbooks about sensorless-FOC of PMSM, that has more detailed description about the estimator/observer for sensorless-FOC. The FAST and eSMO use the similar model as the other estimators/observers in these textbook.
