C2000WARE-MOTORCONTROL-SDK: PMSM controller selection

Part Number: C2000WARE-MOTORCONTROL-SDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8320, TMS320F280025C

Hi,

I have two different PMSM motors that I would like to control using FOC. They are:

a) SPM with hall sensors

b) IPM with w/o sensors

These motors spin upto 1000 rpm with a phase inductance of ~150-400 uH.

My requirements are -

1. speed control even at zero speed with upto 25% of rated torque

2. Four quadrant operation throughout the entire operating speed range

3. FOC throughout the entire operating speed range

For option (a),will hall based FOC at low speed provide the required performance?

Would there be a performance improvement with inline current sensing instead of low side sensing?

For option (b), would a complete sensorless control with HFI suffice?

I am looking at TMS320F280025C + DRV8320 as the HW platform.

What does TI recommend?

Regards,

Tarun
