TMDSHVMTRINSPIN: TMDSHVMTRINSPIN: SDK motor control Level 3, remove current protection

Part Number: TMDSHVMTRINSPIN

I am trying to make sensorless control work properly for my motor. I am working with TMDSHVMTRINSPIN HVKIT yellow board and TMDSCNCD280025C control card to run an SMPMSM motor which is 30kW and 120,000RPM and following these documents: SPRUJ26.pdf and HVMotorCtrl+PFC-SCH[R1.1].pdf. I'm not planning to run this motor with this kit at very high speed, I'm just planning to test up to 3,000RPM, if possible.

I realized that there is hardware protection against overcurrent in the HVKIT other than software protection in the code. I attached the picture related to the overcurrent protection in HVKIT schematic design file. It seems that the IGBT module PS21765 used in this kit can resist the current above 20A, however, the hardware protection doesn't allow the current to go above 20A Peak-peak. I figured if I connect the blue signal in the picture to the ground, I may remove this protective layer, then I might be able to go above 20 A. I wanted to ask if TI suggests this method to let my motor run above a certain speed (1800RPM).

On the other hand, it seems that GPIO39 is the input pin to control this fault using tz1 signal. How can I remove this protection in the code?

Also, there is this jumper J6 on the board that I could not find the explanation for it. What is the application of J6 and what is going to happen if I connect it?

Thank you for your help in advance,

  • It's not recommended to change this as you mentioned above, the kit will be damaged for over current since the maximum current and power output of this kit is limited to the power module. This kit is not suitable to run your motor with a load at any speed.
