TMS320F28027: Pressure tolerance for sub-sea operation

Part Number: TMS320F28027

Dear people,

We're in the stage of designing driver boards for 3 phase BLDC motors to be used in sub-sea conditions (up to 6000m below sea level).

Since i could not find any details on the pressure tolerance in the datasheet of the intended MCU (TMS320F28027DAT), I figured i might try to get some information on prior use in sub-sea conditions or test reports, or anything related via this channel.

Is there anything known on this aspect for 2802x MCU's ?

Thank you in advance.

Joao

  • Joao,

Apologies for the delay, Friday the 15th was US holiday.

I need to loop in some folks from our packaging team to see if we have any information, this is a new request for C2000 devices.  I know we have some devices with hermetic packaging, but that is usually for higher temp operation.  Can you comment on the pressure you expect at this depth that the IC will encounter?

Please give me a few days to see what I can find out.

    Best,

    Matthew

  • Joao : The TMS320F28027DATfamily of devices were qualified to JEDEC / AEC-Q100 standards.  Some reliability tests such as autoclave (121C/ 2 ATM) were run on this package family but it it may not be to the pressure conditions of 6000m beneath the sea. We do not have an external pressure in the datasheet for the devices where these are epoxy  encapsulated ICs intended for use in standard industrial and automotive environments at one atmospheres.

  • That's a good enough answer. I know what to do.   Thanks for the response.
