TMDXIDDK379D: Current Measurement using Shunt method (Mosfet Source to Ground)

Part Number: TMDXIDDK379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS

..

Hi,

I can see the TMDXIDDK379D has 3 current sensors, 2 type are for phase currents and 1 for Mosfet current. Normally we use phase current sensor for FOC and Mosfet source current shunt is for protection such as over current or shoot through. The phase current sensors need high common mode voltage (in high voltage application) current sensor or expensive LEM type of sensors. However the one in the source leg of mosfet shown in the kit's schematic can be low cost and low voltage.

Can we use the current shunt which is shown in the source to ground in the TMDXIDDK379D kit for FOC measurement? Is there a formula for Mosfet shunt currents to phase currents? any disadvantages? especially in SVPWM in FOC will have atleast 3 mosfets ON at any given time, so I want to know how effective that would be?
