TMS320F280049C: If we removed the OPA320, what happen on the ADC performance?

Part Number: TMS320F280049C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA320

Hi Experts,

My customer is developing F280049 based on the Hardware Design Guide for F2800x C2000Tm Real-Time.pdf, One question are here.

They used the external reference voltage as below, they want to know that What benefits OPA320 can bring in the circuit? Why design this OPA320?

If we removed the OPA320, what happen on the ADC performance? Any suggestion?

  • Shaoxing,

any noise seen on VREFHI will directly be reflected in the ADC performance, so the op amp needs to be very precise and stable. Secondly the op amp has a higher drive strength, where some references cannot provide the needed current.

If you are looking to save cost then the internal reference is likely the best option for you, where this circuitry is not needed.

The datasheet describes the degradation in performance of internal reference vs. a very clean stable external reference.
