TMS320F280045: SPIA_STE pin used for GPIO

Hi Dennis, 

You are getting a SysConfig issue because the pinmux is not able to find a free pin to assign to SPI_STE of SPIA. To get rid of this issue, configure the "Use Case" of SPI as "CUSTOM" and then assign the GPIOs for SOMI, SIMO, and CLK.

Manoj Santha Mohan, can you confirm the SPI pin configuration?

Yes, you can use any GPIO as SPISTA pin provided you configure them as GPIO output pin and control them using SW.

Thank you Peter and Manoj.  All errors are resolved.  However, I started the firmware development for this project on the TMDSCNCD280049C control board mated with the TMDSHSECDOCK docking board.  I now need to change the target to a F280045_56RSH.  I can change the target in the .syscfg GUI but when I close the file and save the file, the new target configuration doesn't save.  When I reopen the .syscfg GUI the target is back to the 100 pin devise.  What am I doing wrong?  

I see what you are saying. I will follow-up with sysconfig expert. I think sysconfig automatically picks up higher pin count device. But, it shouldn't functionally affect peripheral / GPIO configuration.

How will this effect the JTAG?

Can you elaborate your concern?

JTAG pins are available on all the devices. So, I don't see how this problem would affect.

Sorry about that.  What I'm concerned about is that on my PCB I have a 56 pin devise and firmware that was compiled for a 100 pin devise.  When I start code debugging with the JTAG, will this be an issue?

This is in reference to your previous question about the switch button within SysConfig. We have a video overviewing how to migrate devices using SysConfig. There are a few settings that need to be changed in the project properties within CCS before the SysConfig "SWITCH" button takes effect. Please see the walkthrough video below:

Thank you that worked.  However, I can't reopen the project.  I get the error message of "invalid project description".  This is happening most of the time.  I've try copying the project to a new folder and sometimes it works but now it doesn't.  This problem started about two to three weeks ago.  I can open any of the example projects but none of mine.

This is what I've discovered.  Please see below.  Please notice work space and file structure.  When I open CCS and choose the root work space, everything works as expected.  Please notice that the projects window shows all projects.  

However, if I choose a project work space, it gives the following error message.  Please notice that the project of interest is shown.

I had the impression that the configuration files were in the project work space.  Can you tell me what is going on?  Thank you for your time.

Our expert on this is out of office this week. From initial observations, there may be some metadata that is stored in your workspace folder, although from my personal experience, each of the project folders should be independent and should be able to be exported and imported independent of the workspace. 

You may try using a new workspace or the Project Export function in CCS.

I've tried using a new work space.  It may work for the first time but subsequent reopenings will fail.  That being said, I do have a work around now.  However, I still would like to know what is going on.  Please pass this issue on to your expert so they can look into this issue.  Thank you.
