LAUNCHXL-F28379D: Minimum configuration for motor speed control with/without position sensor

Hello team,

I consider introduction of motor control development kit for TMS320F2837xD.

Now, I only have a DC voltage source.

Then, what is the minimum configuration for motor speed control with/without position sensor? （I asked this quenstion in customer support center, and was recommended asking here.）

I think one of the minimum configuration is as follows. Is this sufficient?

LAUNCHXL-F28379D（micro controller and card）
BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM（inverter module）
BOOSTXL-POSMGR（encoder adaptor）
LVSERVOMTR（motor）

That depends on what motor, position sensor, and control algorithm you want to use. The kits you listed above are enough for a low voltage motor.

Thank you Yanming. I'm sorry for poor information.

A low voltage motor is enough for me. Then, I want to try both vector control (field oriented control) and six step commutation, with/without position sensor.

So, the following sensors are necessary.

Three phase current sensor
Three phase voltage sensor
DC bus voltage sensor
Position sensor

My configuration includes all of the above, right?

Yes, correct.

You may download and install the latest MotorControlSDK, which includes the Universal Motor Control that can support a set of hardware kits and control algorithms for BLDC/PMSM drive. The kits include LAUNCHXL-F280025C with BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS, or BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH, or DRV8353Rx-EVM, or BOOSTXL-3PHGANINV, or DRV8316REVM. The control algorithms include InstaSPIN or eSMO based Sensorless-FOC, and incremental encoder or hall sensor based sensored-FOC for PMSM drive. These inverter boards can be used with LAUNCHXL-F280025C, the customer can select the inverter board based on the spec. of the motor like rated voltage, current.

Sorry to bother you again.

By any chance, is BOOSTXL-POSMGR unnecessary for connecting LAUNCHXL-F28379D and position sensor included in LVSERVOMTR?

BOOSTXL-POSMGR is optionally recommended in "Get started with motor control using our F2837x low-cost evaluation kit".

I also found the description that LAUNCHXL-F28379D has two encoder interface connectors.

Can I use them as it is like LAUNCHXL-F280025C in Universal Project and Lab User’s Guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/spruj26?

Yes since the LVSERVOMTR only has the incremental encoder that just needs to use QEP module.

Yes, you need to change the device configuration codes in hal.c and hal.h as described in the lab guide.
