LAUNCHXL-F28379D: VREF selection and impact on full scale ADC value

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

All of the signals that I want to measure are max 3.3V.

JP6 can of course connect 5V to VREF.   If I use this, do I go with the 3.3V max, and a "full-scale reading" corresponds to 3.3V, and I lose the resolution of values above this?

Or on the LaunchXL, is it possible to leave JP6 disconnected, and then jumper 3.3V to 5V somewhere else on the board?  Such as closing JP5, and then putting a header from J5-1 (3.3V) to J7-1 (5V).   So that the full 12-bit range will be used?

Thanks!

  • Hello Mark,

Looking at the datasheet for the F2837xD device, the VREF pins can be at maximum 4.6V (the absolute max is VDDA, which has an absolute maximum of 4.6V, but this not a recommended maximum). It would not be safe to make this connection, as you can potentially fry to peripheral.

    Best regards,
