TMS320F28386S: UART access

Part Number: TMS320F28386S

In the F28386S is the UART controllable by the C28 or only the CM?

The reason I ask is that the project I am supporting wants to use software controlled firmware updates as per SPRACN1 but they also want to use RS-485 which has been connected via level shifters to UART-A. Sounds like a mess to me that would be much more easily implemented if the level shifters were connected to one of the SCI ports. Especially since the SPRACN1 application note is geared toward the C28.

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

Thanks for your question! You are correct in that the UART-CM module is only accessible from the CM, and that the C28x core has access to the SCI modules. If C28x core is required, then like you mentioned, it would be better to have them use level shifters on the SCI ports instead (that way you have full access to them from the C28).

  • That is what I would like to have done. However, seems folks would rather fix it with software than re-spin the board.

    Many thanks.
