TIDM-BIDIR-400-12: Scaling up the voltage to 800V and few queries on Converters

Part Number: TIDM-BIDIR-400-12

Hello Team,

We are working on a off-grid based project. To start of with we have chosen this ref design.

1.Is there any specific reason why the voltage was only fixed at 12V to 400V conversion? In case if I shift to 48V can go to higher voltages like 600V or 800V?

2.The power output of the design  is 300W. In case If I wish to scale up to 5KW or 10KW what should be done? If it cannot be done can we know the reason behind that?

3.In majority of the bidirectional DC-DC Converter designs the voltage difference between the input and the output is around 100V to 250V. Is there any specific reason for the difference in the voltage?

ex : https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-02002

4.How do we decide the DC Input voltage for the 1-Phase and 3-Phave Inverter? Is there any document that helps us to calculate the DC Voltage that required/mandatory for the Inverter to deliver the desired output voltage of 230V(in case of 1 phase) and 415V (in case of 3 Phase)?

It would be very kind if you can help us to clarify these queries. We appreciate your time and efforts. Thanks .

  • 1. No, there is no reason. But we have to demonstrate MCU capability using one example. So we chose this 400V to 12V Dc /DC example. For other voltages you have to design the power converter properly and then use the MCU in a similar way to control it.

    2. You have to design your 10kW converter and control it using the MCU in a similar way.

    3. These converters are buck or boost type. So there will be some differences between input and output. It can be any dc/dc converter that you want to design.

    4. There are lots of papers, books available on this topic. Pls read those and get familiar with the designs.
