ControlSuite installation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, LM3S8933, LM3S8970, LM3S8962, LM3S8971, LM3S8938

Hi,

I just did a brand new installation of ControlSuite on a PC and realized that the installation on my PC is not correct. I am missing the files links under Utilities (and may be other links). I then went to uninstall ControlSuite on my PC in Add Remove Programs, but it wouldn't let me. A message box comes up and says that I can only uninstall programs that are installed??? I am suspecting that this is a registry corruption issue from having done numerous updates.

How do I fix this?

Thanks.

  • Hi Tim,

You are correct, when controlSUITE is installed it creates a few registry keys so that the installer has an idea of what is installed on your system.  Installing a second copy of controlSUITE can potentially "confuse" the installer.

I'm honestly not all that familiar with the installer because internally we use GIT to manage controlSUITE, so I can't make any suggestions.  Our expert on the installer is out of town right now, but I've made him aware of your issue and will get him to follow up with you.  Expect a response on Friday.

  • Hi Tim,

At this point, controlSUITE is not installed as typical Windows registered software. Instead, the controlSUITE software is all installed in one place (depending on your selected install path) at:

    C:\TI\

In order to uninstall controlSUITE, all you need to do is delete the entire C:\TI\ folder.

As for registry corruption, controlSUITE only uses only one registry value at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Texas Instruments, Inc.\ControlSUITE\Version

If you have multiple versions of controlSUITE installed, the shortcut in your start menu for the controlSUITE graphical interface could become confused. You can directly launch the graphical interface at C:\TI\controlSUITE\controlSUITE.exe (or your applicable installation path).

We will look into moving controlSUITE to registered Windows software in a future update so users will be able to uninstall via the Control Panel.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your answer. If I delete the registry key, will the installation program re-install so that my controlSuite will show up correctly? I am trying to not delete C:\TI folder because I have on going projects in there.

  • If you delete the registry key, the installer will indeed re-install the registry key.

Let me know if you have further trouble after re-installing. Be aware, that if you are writing to installed controlSUITE files, then re-installing may overwrite those files (losing your work). It is typically best to use a separate project directory. Please backup your work before re-installing.

  • Hi Patrick!

My name is Alex Karakulov, I am from Tomsk, Russia. We use TI products for students education and in development of devices for industries in Russia and USA.

We have developed our own MexBIOS software system for TI C2000 MCU. It rapidly accelerates the software development process for motor/motion control systems.   Demonstration and example of use can be seen at Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU_Upngg2AA. We think it will be good to get the TI opinion about our project, and we ready to collaborate with TI, because our MexBIOS can be good plug-in for CodeComposerStudio, and can be used for all DSP and MCU of TI.

If you see the interest to our project, can you advice someone in TI (managers, engineers, etc.) whom we could contact? I plan to visit US in Novermber/December, so in case of interest I will be able to visit TI and present the full-detalized project.

    Best regards

    Alex Karakulov

  • Hello Alex,

    Nice tool! Good job.

I am interested if is it possible to do "PLC-kind" I/O? Actually if there are general I/Os it helps to configure functionality to this I/Os.

Simple example if Concerto device is used then we run our own control subsystem (already existing legacy code) but on host subsystem we need to run RTOS with PLC kind functionality. This should help to program host subsystem.

Maybe this is not your primary idea for your tool.

    Best regards,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter!

We provide units for "PLC-kind" I/O for MexBIOS the same way as for Siemens LOGO! Soft Confort.

Additionaly we finish to test StateFlow tool (as for Simulink) for MexBIOS - very usefull thing for logic control .

If you have interest, we can contact via Linked or email.

  • New libraries that support microcontrollers Stellaris LM4F Cortex-M4F and Stellaris LM3S Cortex-M3 manufactured by Texas Instruments have been developed.

    • Library LM3S89xx support microcontrollers: LM3S8930, LM3S8933, LM3S8938, LM3S8962, LM3S8970, LM3S8971
    • Library LM4F23x support microcontrollers: LM4F230E5QR, LM4F230H5QR, LM4F231E5QR, LM4F231H5QR, LM4F232E5QC, LM4F232H5QC, LM4F232H5QD, LM4F232H5BB

The libraries contain start projects that provide direct program loading without compilation for debugging kits Texas Instruments LM4F232 Evaluation Board and LM3S8962 Evaluation Board.

To use the libraries you need to install MexBIOS Development Studio V2.15.3.0 and higher.
