TIDM-BIDIR-400-12: Questions about the current, concrete components of TIDM-BIDIR-400-12

Hello, Team,

I’d like to ask about the reference design, “TIDM-BIDIR-400-12.”

The below design materials about above converter on the website, www.ti.com/.../TIDM-BIDIR-400-12, is provided, and I’d like to generate the Gerber Data to produce this converter experimentally. However, according to the Design Guide, the design was provided about 8 years ago. Due to this, I assume that the parts which are out of production are included in the Bill of Materials and I must design and change some footprints.

Therefore, I’d like to know each suitable component which is applicable and suitable now.

Also, because of my urgent job, I must choose components which are written as “Standard” in the Bill of Materials in a week, such as resisters.

Therefore, I’d like to know the example components. Especially, I’d like to know the needed voltage ratings of each resistor.

In summary, I’d like to get the current, concrete bill of materials of TIDM-BIDIR-400-12.

    The full BOM is included in the design. It is up to you identify which components may be out of production and identify replacements. If you have doubts on any particular component, please let us know.

    After checking a part of the BOM, I got a doubt.

     

    Would you mind answering the below 3 questions about the DIMM connector, 87630-1001?

     

    1. I recognize that the above connector is for inserting the control card, TMDSCNCD28035, to the board. Is that correct?
    2. According to the inventories I searched, it is out of stock. Has it been out of production?
    3. I’d like to know the information about the substitutional components of it because I assume that it is difficult to buy it in my country.

    Hello Takumi,

    Yes, the DIM100 connector has been discontinued. There are no more manufacturers for it. I think you have a couple of options:

    1. Replace the DIM connector with a standard 100 mil header. This means you would also need to design and build a C2000 controller board. The F28035 controlCARD design files are provided in C2000ware: \C2000Ware_5_00_00_00\boards\controlCARDs\TMDSCNCD28035. You could use those as a starting point.

    2. Replace the DIM connector with an HSEC connector & use a gen 3 controlCARD (for example TMDSCNCD280039C). This means the F28035 firmware will have to be ported to a gen 3 device.

    3. Redesign the baseboard to accept the C2000 device directly.

    I’d like to think about these solutions.

     

    By the way, as I said before, I’d just like to “prototype” this converter. In other words, it is not for products and rework components are available. Then, I came up with the below solution.

     

    TI produces F28035 Piccolo Experimenter's Kit, TMDSDOCK28035. I assume that this board has a connector to which the controlcard, TMDSCNCD28035, is able to insert. Based on this structure, I assume that if I remove the solder which connects the connector and the board, I could get the same structure component of the DIMM connector, 87630-1001, and apply the connector to the converter.

     

    Is it correct? Does it make sense?
