TMS320F28069: Low Cost alternative to TMS320F28069 with ECAN

Part Number: TMS320F28069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F2800157

Tool/software:

Hello,

we are looking for a low-cost alternative to the TMS320F28069.
Is there an inexpensive alternative that also uses the ECAN module to minimize the effort of software migration?
The new processors (F2800xx) all use the MCAN or DCAN module, but this is not 1:1 portable, right?

Is there an overview of which processors use the ECAN module?

Thanks a lot.
Best regards

Markus

  • Is there an inexpensive alternative that also uses the ECAN module to minimize the effort of software migration?

Devices such as F28055 and F28035 do have eCAN and cost about US$5.5, compared to about US$9 for the F28069. However, these devices have a lower clock speed and lack the FPU, VCU, TMU etc.

Correct. None of the three CAN modules are software compatible with each other.

Is there an overview of which processors use the ECAN module?

F281x, F280X, F2801x, F2833x, F2823x, F2803x, F2805x. An easy to determine this is that any MCU with 1.8v core voltage features eCAN.

  • Markus,

Just to put things in perspective, please take a look at our TMS320F2800157 device. It is considerably more powerful than the F28069 (120MHz Vs 90MHz) with more features and yet costs $1.5, about one-fourth of 28069. If you are concerned about migration to DCAN, I have included a section 4.4 Migrating From eCAN in www.ti.com/lit/SPRACE5.

  • Hi Hareesh,

thank you, thats sounds good. I will have a look on it.

    Best Regards,

    Markus
