TMS320F28P550SJ: INTOSC2/INTOSC1 for 115200 bps UART and 250kbps CAN

Part Number: TMS320F28P550SJ

Tool/software:

Hi champs,

I am asking this for our customer.

The user is asking based on the accuracy across the whole temperature, is it OK to use INTOSC2/INTOSC1 for 115200 bps UART and 250 kbps CAN?

That is, they do not want to use an external crystal/oscillator if possible.

Do you have any comment?

Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

UART has wider tolerance for clock variation and can usually operate with up to 3.75% clock accuracy.  CAN however has a more stringent timing requirement which should be better than 1%.  The INTOSC variation is greater than CAN timing requirement hence we strongly recommend customers to use more accurate external clock source for CAN communications.
