TMS320F28P559SJ-Q1: reasons for the recommendation setting of 5.6 Connections for Unused Pins

Part Number: TMS320F28P559SJ-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team

Customer want to research what's our datasheet consideration in 5.6 Connections for Unused Pins, for EMC or other? what's the risk if the pins do not handled as recommendation.

Thanks

Joe

  • Joe,

I've been traveling for business today, please give me another day to reply here.

  • Joe,

EMC is one risk, ESD(perhaps caused by EMC) is another, and in general noise coupling, especially for nearby analog pins to get influenced by toggling on adjacent pins.

I believe one option for GPIO pins at least is to set as output and drive, the current draw(if there is nothing connected) should be minimal on the output buffer, and this gives some protection while the device is running.

This does not solve issues before device has booted and can control the pins, and also I would say for key pins that have JTAG function it is even more important they not be left floating for functional reasons, i.e. so the device does not enter a scan or test mode unintentionally.

    Best,

    Matthew
