TMS320F2808: Choosing the right JTAG USB Emulator

Hi Support Team,

I am using c2000 family Tms320f2808 MCU control card on the doc station tmdscncd2808 and i want a JTAG emulator to connect to the board and erase my flash.
So my question is, what is the best choice for my MCU to be able to deal with memory and flash erase/program/verify?

1- XDS110
2- XDS v2 dsp usb emulator
3- XDS v3 dsp usb emulator

Also, Is there any gui software will support these Jtags?
Like >> Cgang2000 or Pro Flash 2000.
Because when i used these gui, it didn;t support the normal xds100v1 cable debug probe of the board and it requires >> JTAG or cJTAG.

I wish you understand my question and sorry for being too long.

Hello,

XDS110 replaces the two XDS100 families: XDS100v2 and XDS100v3. The XDS110 is faster than the XDS100v2/v3 (which is important if you're doing a lot of flash programming), but the XDS100v2/v3 are cheaper. You can see a performance comparison between the debug probes on C2000 devices here: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/application_notes/appnote-debug_probe_performance_results.html#f28379d

I would recommend the XDS110 as the best value JTAG debug probe for C2000 devices and it has the best support available in case you run into any issues. TI does not sell standalone XDS100 debuggers anymore, so you'll have to check the various third party suppliers.

As for GUI support, I recommend you check out UniFlash. It can read the device memory and program/verify/erase the flash in a standalone tool. The XDS100/110 debug probes are compatible with this software.

Hi Matt,
i am already using UNIFLASH but now i am using just XDS100V1 cable that coming with the doc station, but it is not supported in uniflash or any software else like Cgang pr proFlash2000.

Also, i want to ask if there is a difference between the XDS110 debug probe and XDS110 USB DSP Emulation. Because in Cgang and proflash2000 software, they are supporting only the jTAG or cJTAG connections.

Because there is a difference between them in the price. And i am afraid if i bought the XDS110 USB Emulation and the Softwares like Cgang not support it.

Can you clarify which XDS110 products you are looking at (i.e. please provide product page links for both)? Do you mean this: https://www.ti.com/tool/LP-XDS110 for XDS110 USB DSP emulation?

Hello,

I don't believe the "XDS110 USB DSP Emulator" (top) manufactured by TI. It looks like a third-party clone of the "XDS110 Debug Probe" (bottom).

As such, the clone does not guarantee functionality/compatibility and will not be supported by TI if any technical difficulties arise. It will be at your own risk if you do choose to use that debugger.
