AIO (I/O) in TMS320F28035

Hi guys,

I am curious that, what kind of applications in which AIO (I/O) is needed?

I've done some projects using pins as EPWM output, GPIO, ADC inputs and on-chip Comparator inputs, but I never had to use them as AIO (I/O).

Frank,

Most of the use of the AIO pins comes when a customer needs a few more I/O pins than the standard GPIO pins can deliver (either because his system requires a lot of I/O pins or because he using all the GPIO pins as peripherals).

The AIO pins therefore give a bit more flexibility for certain designs (that don't need all 16 ADC conversion channels).

Hi Brett,

When you said

I think it implies that the customer uses AIO pins as digital I/O since GPIO is digtial I/O.

If that's the case, why is it named AIO --- analog input/output.

The reason for the name "Analog" in AIO is because these IO are located in the pins typically used for "Analog"/ADC pins.

See pg 61in the F2803x Datasheet for a figure on the ADC MUX and description.
