TMS320F28386S: TRSTn Pin JTAG F28386SPTPQR + XDS200

Part Number: TMS320F28386S

Hello,

I have a question regarding the F28386SPTPQR.

We are using the F28386SPTPQR together with an XDS200 programmer. On our current adapter, the TRSTn pin is unfortunately not routed out.
Is the TRSTn pin strictly required for programming the controller, or is flashing possible without this pin?

Thank you and best regards,
Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

The requirement for the TRSTn pin when programming the MCU is that it is driven high when you want to give the programmer control of the device. TRSTn must be driven low for the device to operate in its functional mode.

If you can't connect this pin to your debugger, you need to drive the TRSTn pin at the board level in order to allow the MCU to enter JTAG programming mode.

    Regards,

  • Hi Brennan,

ok, this helps, thanks a lot!

So I need to make a new adapter that connects that TRSTn pin to the Programmer.

    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • Thomas,

You can make a new adapter that connects TRSTn to the programmer, or have some method of driving the TRSTn pin high/low at the board level (it does not necessarily need to be from the programmer hardware, but if this is not too challenging, then I would recommend you go that route).

    Regards,
