CCS Update for Piccolo CLA Support

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, TMS320F28035

This is a general discussion on how to update the full version of CCS V3.3 to add Piccolo CLA support. This includes directions, questions, solutions, and general feedback on the process. The C2000 team will be monitoring this forum and answering any questions posted.

As of September 30, 2009 Update Adviser features a link to a document describing how to enable CLA support on the full version of CCS. This is a cumbersome procedure and we will be sending an email to all active subscribers to CCS V3.3 with a link to download the full version installer later this week.

  • Hi Charlie,

I just purchased the Motor Control and PFC Developer kit, and am having trouble with the XDS100 software driver installation. On my PC, I already have the full version of CCS 3.3.

The problem I'm having is that in order to get the F28035 emulator driver in CCS Setup, I had to install the limited CCS Studio that came with the kit into a different directory than the default CCS directory with my existing install. When I did this, it wiped out the processors that were in my CCS Setup, and even after getting them back into CCS Setup, I could not connect to my other processor (F28335).

I have downloaded the drivers for XDS100, but this did not help me. I reinstalled my full CCS Studio version, but this does not give me the F28035 processor selection.

I have gone through the release notes in SPRAB45, but did not find anything pertinent to my issues.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tim

  • Tim,

What version of CCS V3.3 are you using as your full install? Under the "Help" menu select About.

I would recommend going into update adviser and downloading the latest service release. The motor control kit does not use the CLA, so you will not need CLA support just yet. Next week we will be sending out an email to active subscribers about how to add CLA support to the full version. Let me know if this fixes the problem. Be sure to uninstall CCS using the Windows uninstall feature, otherwise there are still some random files left.

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

In About menu, it says: Version: 3.382.13. I understand that the kit does not use CLA, however, I do need to use the correct processor that came with the kit, and it's not showing up in CCS Setup.

    Thanks,

    Tim

  • Hi Charlie,

I have downloaded and installed the latest service release. My version of CCS is now: 3.3.83.19. When I try to connect to my F28335 processor with XDS510LC emulator, I get an error.

This is after I have selected the XDS100 for the F28035 and XDS510 for the F28335.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim;

In the first posting you mentioned having installed 2 different version of CCS; this should mean that you have 2 different CCSetup programs.  I am wondering if the correct CCSetup was chosen when you were looking for the F28035.  If you want to explicitly run a specific setup program it can be found in

    <ccs_install_folder>\cc\bin\cc_setup.exe.

    For example: C:\CCStudio_v3.3\cc\bin\cc_setup.exe

Support for the F28035 should be in the folder where you installed build 3.3.83.x.  Similarly the correct version of CCapp should be run, <ccs_install_folder>\\cc\bin\cc_app.exe

When you noted you now have downloaded the latest release, is this the Limited version, or the latest Full version?

For the second problem, the connection issue, after installing the Image Update build, 3.3.83.19, you could also updating the emulator drivers if you are using a 3rd party emulator like Spectrum Digital.  As an aside, the Image Update should be installed in it’s own clean folder; it is not installed overtop of an existing CCS installed folder as an SR would.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

    >>In the first posting you mentioned having installed 2 different version of CCS; this should mean that you have 2 different CCSetup programs.  I am wondering if the correct CCSetup was chosen when you were looking for the F28035.

Sorry if I wasn't being in my first post. I did do an uninstall of CCS before installing the full version that I downloaded from the TI Update website, so there is only one version of CCS on the PC.

    >>When you noted you now have downloaded the latest release, is this the Limited version, or the latest Full version?

I downloaded the Full version from the TI Update site, as noted above.

I just tried to re-install the Spectrum Digital emulator drivers, but the default installation path points to C:\CCStudio_v3.3, which has been uninstalled. Shall I point it to the new CCS path at C:\CCStudio_v3.3MCU? As to your aside, the Image Update did install to a new clean folder, C:\CCStudio_v3.3MCU.

Thanks for your help and I look forward to your response.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim;

Yes, please do point the Spectrum Digital emulator driver install to the new CCS path.

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I just did that (install SD emulator driver to the new path using the SD CD), but it still won't allow me to connect to the 28335 processor using XDS510.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim;

The CD that you have, would it contain the latest release of the SD drivers?  That would be 3.03.30 [25-June-2009].
If not, it can be found at http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs33/

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I have uninstalled the old SD drivers, downloaded version 3.03.30, and reinstalled, but still cannot connect to the F28335.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim;

I'll continue to see what else we can try tomorrow, but for now did you try the XDS100?  Since you mentioned it in the thread above I assume you may also have that emulator.

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I don't have a stand-alone emulator for XDS100, but I am currently connected to an XDS100 that is on-board the motor development kit.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim;

I was not able to reproduce the problem you are seeing.  I was able to get a hold of the same emulator, SD XDS510LC USB, with an F28335.  Using the C2000 Full build 3.3.83.19 I did not have any trouble connecting when using the latest SD drivers as mentioned above.  We will need to follow up with you as to the next steps.

    Mike

  • TIm,

You said you were using the C2000 PFC and Motor Control Developer's Kit baseboard correct? If this is the case, then my guess is that it is a hardware issue. Because of the on board isolation, the USB must be connected for an external emulator to work. Placing a jumper on J5 will hold the FTDI chip in reset and allow your XDS510 to connect to the board. Let me know if this solves your problem.

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

    >>You said you were using the C2000 PFC and Motor Control Developer's Kit baseboard correct?

    That is correct.

    >>If this is the case, then my guess is that it is a hardware issue. Because of the on board isolation, the USB must be connected for an external emulator to work. I tried this yesterday, and still could not connect. I also tried connecting to another stand-alone F28335 board, and cannot connect. With the Developer Kit, I can only connect through the on board emulator. If I uninstall the latest CCS and go back to the an older version without the XDS100, I can connect to the stand-alone F28335 using XDS510 (but then I cannot connect to the Developer Kit using on board  XDS100). Both XDS100 and XDS510 show up in CCS Setup, but does not allow me to connect through XDS510 to the processors.

  • Servus,

The announced mail to download the full version of CCS V3.3 with Piccolo support came in but I don't succeed getting authorization the way described in the mail, all attempts times out.

    Walter

  • Walter,

Can you post the name and password you used to access the FTP site? What part of the world are you attempting to access it from? We're looking into this and will let you know what the problem is.

Is anyone else having this issue?

    Charlie

  • I saw this the first couple of days after the email notification came out, but it appears to have been corrected, and I was able to download.

  • I am glad the problem is resolved.  I tried several times and was successful most times.  The few times I experienced a timeout.  When that happened I switched to FTPing from the command line and it worked fine; the timeouts only occured when using the browser.

    Mike

  • Hi Charlie

I copied the relevant part out of TIs' e-mail:

    xxxxxxx
    Login with the userid: pickup
    Enter the password: xxxxx
The C2000 Full install zip filename is: C2000_Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3.83.19_full.zip

I tried it again, but still the same behaviour: time out.

    Walter

Walter, I edited this. We only want people with the full version to be able to download this software.

    Charlie

  • I have a full CCS 3.3 version, but did not receive the mail with the update link.

    What can I do?

  • Stephan,

Please send me an email about this: xxx at ti.com

    Charlie

  • After downloading the full version installer from the ftp site, what is the "service code" I am prompted for in order to register the product?  Is registration necessary?

    Thanks,

    -Richard

  • Hi Richard;

Registration is not needed to use the product; but at a later time you may need to register if you want to download updates via Update Advisor.

    Mike

  • I have a similar issue. When I point the "Device Driver Directories"  to 3.0.30 files I got a msg warning me of "incompatibility" and the emulators don't show up in the selection list.  I am trying for the SD XDS510 USB emulator specifically.

    Dave

  • Sorry, the link expired before I could use it. Can you send it again?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Hi Charlie,

    Thanks for your supportness.

Yesterday, I was surprised to find your email contained spam mail section. Few seconds later I noticed that my mail server sorted out yours like that !!!  So I couldn't see it.

So could you please send me the 'C2000_Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3.83.19_full.zip' file again? If it's possible, I really appreciate because I faced with new prj. must use TMS320F28035.

    Best regards,

    Steve

  • hi

i am using CCS3.3 SR-12 (SR12_CCS_v3.3_SR_3.3.82.13) ,but it cann't use cla and program Flash,so could you please send me the 'C2000_Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3.83_full.zip' file ? If it's possible, I really appreciate because I faced with new prj. must use TMS320F28035.(xds100)。

           Best regards

  • Hi Kou,

you can contact our customer support in your region (TI-Product Information Centers). They can check the validity of your license and provide you with the desired image if you CCS license is valid and active.

Alternatively you can download CCSv4 (http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php?title=Category:Code_Composer_Studio_v4) which you can use free of charge with the F28035 & an XDS100 (which is your plan anyway) with either the 32kb code size limited version (core version) or the free limited version, which only supports our EVM's/DSK's on-board emulators and the XDS100 (see also http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Licensing_-_CCSv4).

  • hi, Nice to meet you.

    I am using

C2000 Code Composer Studio™ bundled with Annual Subscription
    (DSP9324U)

but I don't know how update ccs3.3 full version to use cla for F28035.

    So, I am using C2000_Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3.83.19_limited.

What can I do to use not limited version.

    Best regards

    Dong,

If you go to the update advisor for your CCS, you will find a link to a new full install that includes support for CLA.  Unfortunately it is not an upgrade but a full install.

    -Lori

  • Hi, Lori

    Thank you for your answer.

"Unfortunately it is not an upgrade but a full install. " mean...

C2000(only version) CCS user can not upgrade a new install(or fatch) for CLA?

I need C2000 CCS that is not limited 32Kbyte(Code size). And  I want to  use CLA of TMS320F28035.

    Please, give me a solution.
