Hi,

I use TMS320F28335 microcontroller with CCS v5.4.

After a code is compiled, I want to know the used and the remaining memory space.

For example, RAM : 40% used and 60% free

FLASH : 15% used and 85% free

Also, I analyzed the F28335.map file and it is attached.

I saw at this file that some memory space is used and some memory space is empty.

But I did not understand it very well.

Please help me at this subject.

Memory space occupied by the code can be judged by looking into the generated map file. Here's how you can do it: Go through Memory Map Description section from this link:

The reason the RAMs are divided up is because they have different capabilities. Figure 3-2 in the F2833x datasheet (SPRS439) has a memory map for the device. L0-L3 can be secured via the Code Security Module, while L4-L7 can be accessed by the DMA. M0 and M1 are usually used for RAM functions and the stack.

Flash is divided into 8 sectors, each of which can be erased independently.

As you can see in the datasheet, the F28335 has 256k words of flash and 34k words of SRAM. To get your total RAM usage, look at your linker map file and add up the numbers in the "used" column for RAMM0, RAMM1, and RAML0 - RAML7. (I get 0x397 words.) To get your total flash usage, add up the "used" values for FLASHA - FLASHH. I get 0x11FE, plus the 0x80 words reserved for the CSM. This works out to 2.6% RAM used and 1.8% flash used.

To make this easier in the future, you can change your linker command file to merge L0 - L7 and FLASHA - FLASHH into single sections. (Assuming you don't care about security or DMA access.)

Hi Adam,

In my program, I use 4 buffers named as debugtable1, debugtable2, debugtable3 and debugtable4 and you can see the definitions at the attachment.

When I compiled the code, in the map file, only RAML0 and RAML4 are used and their used values are RAML0=1F and RAML4=EEE. Moreover, if I add an extra buffer named as debugtable5, compiler gives an error and you can also see this at the attachment.

Now, I want to use RAML5 or RAML6 for these buffers.

So, how can I define these buffers to use RAML5 or RAML6?
