Replacing BoosterPack FETs to increase current support

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD18533Q5A, CSD18509Q5B

Hello,

I'm working with BoosterPack + Launchpad in order to have a BLDC controller.

In the project, we need to support current of 35A to have maximum torque.

I am looking for alternatives to the current  CSD18533Q5A transistor. I found the CSD18509Q5B component, in order to preserve the form factor. Is it the appropriate device? If the form factor is not a requirement, which would be an appropriate component to support bigger current?

I would also like to ask how to address the impact of resistors R28, R29, R30, R31, R32, R33 and capacitors C31, C32, C33.

Best regards,

Flavio

  • Hi Flavio,

Yes, you can replace the MOSFET's with any 8 Pin SON 5x6 package type MOSFETs that have the same pinout. This device seems to be a suitable component.

You may also need to look at adjusting the sense resistor value size as it has been designed with 15A peak current in mind.

I don't not believe adjusting the gate resistance is necessary. You may have to check this in system level testing.

    C31, C32, and C33 should be a don't care.

You may also need to look at adjusting the bulk capacitance (C20, C21). Higher motor currents will lead to higher voltage ripple.
