TMS320F28335: P/N = TMS320F28335 occurs booting defection while it is on boot at low temperature environment between 0 to -32`C.

Part Number: TMS320F28335

Please give us any feedback or solution of below symptoms for the P/N called TMS320F28335

  1. Symptoms

: P/N = TMS320F28335 occurs booting defection while it is on boot at low temperature environment between 0 to -32`C.

  1. Local state of the DSP board during boot at low temperature.

: Power 3.3V, 1.9V Normal, Reset Normal(same as normal temperature boot)

  1. Environmental factors on DSP

: CCS version 3.3.82.13

BIOS Version 5.41.10.36

Code Generation version 5.2.11

  1. Phenomenon at failure occurrence while boot.

: During initializing DSP in program, error appears function of InitXintF(); Unable to boot as it appears endless loop during initializing on local area.

  1. History

: No issue or any defective error on production between 2015~2016, initial issue on 2017, most of the board we made in 2018 had continual symptoms(error occurrence).

Also, same type of other board have same symptoms.

In our perspective, we estimate that the firmware implemented in the DSP BIOS occurs this typical symptoms. It seems there must have been upgrade on other function or function of the DSP chip itself as this symptoms came out so suddenly at some point.

In summary, as there were no issue or any defective error occurred with the previous DSP Board we made in 2015~2016. At this point, we would like to ask you to review this DSP itself precisely.

Q1) Is there any relevant inquiry facing similar situation as ours?

Q2) Occurs only in BIOS Version?

Q3) Which part would we consider to review?

Or if you could possibly arrange the schedule to support by ourselves, that would be so appreciatable.

  • It appears you have created an identical thread, but with a different title at https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/662286. Please close that post and do not create duplicate posts.

    • Are you saying the same firmware which was working fine in 2015-2016 is suddenly showing this issue?
    •  Could you please provide a photograph of the top side of the device?
    • In the device errata, there is this item: Memory: Possible Incorrect Operation of XINTF Module After Power Up. Have you checked if it could be applicable in your design?
    • You mentioned it happens only between 0'C and 32'C? How about outside this range? i.e. <0'C and >32'C?

    • Is the error consistent every time you power-up?

  • I appreciate for your reply.
Sorry for creating duplicate posts. I clicked "Resolved" button to one of an identical thread.

Please check the answers to your questions from the followings,

    1. Are you saying the same firmware which was working fine in 2015-2016 is suddenly showing this issue?
: We started producing from 2015, issue made early in 2017(F/W init() is same as 2015) .

    2. Could you please provide a photograph of the top side of the device?
: Please look through attached file.

    3. In the device errata, there is this item: Memory: Possible Incorrect Operation of XINTF Module After Power Up. Have you checked if it could be applicable in your design?
: We are using Reset IC "TPS3808G33DBVT", there is no change in "H/W" from 2015 to now.

    4. You mentioned it happens only between 0'C and 32'C? How about outside this range? i.e. <0'C and >32'C?
    : It is mainly caused by - 25 to - 32 ' C

    5. Is the error consistent every time you power-up?
: Every time we power-up, the error occurs consistently.
  • In your original post, you said this: "P/N = TMS320F28335 occurs booting defection while it is on boot at low temperature environment between 0 to -32`C". Now, in the last post, you say this: "It is mainly caused by - 25 to - 32 ' C". Which is correct? Please specify precisely the temperature range where you see this problem and clarify what happens outside this range.

You say Every time we power-up, the error occurs consistently.” Can you try the following on a device that shows this error consistently? Remove everything else from the code and retain only the XINTF initialization function and try running it. This code should be no more than a few lines. Also, please clarify the dependency on DSP-BIOS. Are you saying you don’t see this issue if you don’t use DSP-BIOS?

I didn’t understand your observation about the errata. I see that you are using TPS3808G33DBVT, but that doesn’t mean much. Specifically, do you employ the workaround in your application?

Thank you for providing the photo of the devices. Are all devices in this photo showing this problem?

  • Hi Woojin Choi,

Could you call me at 02-560-6863?

  • In your original post, you said this: "P/N = TMS320F28335 occurs booting defection while it is on boot at low temperature environment between 0 to -32`C"Now, in the last post, you say this: "It is mainly caused by - 25 to - 32 ' C". Which is correct? Please specify precisely the temperature range where you see this problem and clarify what happens outside this range.

==> Most of them have booting defection at between -30`C ~ -32`C. Some of them occurs even at -25`C.

For reference, we do the test at -32`C.

You say “Every time we power-up, the error occurs consistently.” Can you try the following on a device that shows this error consistently? Remove everything else from the code and retain only the XINTF initialization function and try running it. This code should be no more than a few lines. Also, please clarify the dependency on DSP-BIOS. Are you saying you don’t see this issue if you don’t use DSP-BIOS?

==> Error occurs when we apply XINTF init alone.

Error occurs only in DSP-BIOS, there is no issue if we don`t use DSP-BIOS.

I didn’t understand your observation about the errata. I see that you are using TPS3808G33DBVT, but that doesn’t mean much. Specifically, do you employ the workaround in your application?

==> We are using TPS3808G33DBVT for Reset IC, there is no changes in H/W from 2015 to now.

And also the connected component between TMS320F28335 and XINTF is FPGA.

Thank you for providing the photo of the devices. Are all devices in this photo showing this problem?

==> All devices in the photo showing this problem.

  • Could you please contact our FAE Junghyuk Huh, so that we can take the debug forward?
  • Woojin,
I haven't heard from you in a while. I presume you were able to identify/resolve the issue. Unless I hear otherwise, I'll close this post.
