CCS/TMS320F28055: Add more UART port

Hello,

I'm using TMS320F28055 which has 3 UARTS, I need another UART port.

As I saw it may be possible to get more UART port by using 2 gpios and implemention by software. Using timer or Multichannel.

I would like to know,

1. Is that considered a convenient way to achieve that goal?

2. Does TI have some prepared code/library that implement that?

I did find one appnote, but you may want to consider an external SPI-UART chip (That is, if you have a SPI port available).

Drastic, but have you considered F28075 as upgrade?

It is possible to use a GPIO for SCI communication although there is some significant software overhead. This is called bit-banging.

You may consider:
1) using a device with more ports
2) using some other means of communication or a transceiver/converter
3) use GPIOs

SPI-UART chip - Thanks I will check that.

I did considered the F28075 but it has higher price which may be significant.

I need to support only specific pre-known baud rate and parity settings, may this simplify the implementation.
