TMS320F28377D: Do I need to pull up SCI pins in hardware when using TMS320F28377D?

Hi,

I would like to know whether or not it is necessary to pull up SCI pins in hardware when I want to use SCI of TMS320F28377D ? I have this doubt because I have seen some schematic by others where the SCI pins are pulled up in hardware, I want to know whether it is necessary? Can I use the software pull up only?

Thank you for your help! I'm new for hardware design.

Hi Jack,

This is a complicated question to answer in general. Do you have more specifics about what you are trying to interface with? Is this for on-board communications with something like another processor using CMOS levels, or is this for off-board communications via something like an RS-232 transceiver? Do you want to boot the C2000 via SCI (or boot the connected device via the SCI with C28x as the master) or is this just for general communication once everything is up and running?

Hi, Devin,
Thank you for your reply! I want to use the sci to communicate with my computer, via RS-232 transceiver, in that case, should I pull up the TX and RX pins in hardware? If so, how should I choose the pull up resister value?

Hi Jack,

Have you selected an RS-232 transceiver? Looking at a few datasheets, it seems like these typically have pull-downs integrated (the bus polarity is inverted, so they use pull-downs instead of pull-ups) so probably you wouldn't need additional pulls?
