Hello,

I want to make a PCB that only has the TMS320F28051 processor and an LED on it. My goal would be to get the processor to blink the LED. What I am aiming to learn from this is how to flash a processor using a JTAG/emulator. I know how to write the code, and I know how to design the PCB. However, my only experience flashing processors is with TI's off-the-shelf solutions such as the C2000 or MSP430.

I am only requesting that someone point me in the right direction for learning how to do this. Perhaps just link me some resources, or tell me what to look up. You definitely don't need to list out all the steps to flashing a processor.

Michael,

JTAG flash programming can be done with Code Composer Studio, or Uniflash. Uniflash is basically the flash programmer from Code Composer Studio.

I have used the CCS before to program MCUs such as the MSP430 and C2000.

Side question:

I am not sure if I am mixing up my terminology. I understand MCU (microcontroller) to refer to the whole board (such as the C2000), processor and peripherals included. I understand MPU (microprocessor) to refer to just he processor such as the TMS320F28051PNT. I just want to be clear with what I am referring to.

I'm not sure where flash programming steps are documented, if they are. In CCS, all you do is (1) connect to target, and (2) Run->Load_Program. That will flash the device with your program.

People tend to use MCU and MPU rather loosely. We can read what Wikipedia says about them. To me, an MCU contains non-volatile memory (e.g., flash), whereas an MPU does not. Otherwise they are similar. That is just how I use the terms.

Hey Santosh,

Can you point me to where I can learn about the anatomy of a CCS project? I am looking at the led_ex1_blinky example C2000 ware offers, and I am just trying to learn about all of the file types and what purpose they serve.

If you have downloaded C2000ware, and installed it, then it comes with many examples.

Please import the project in CCS. led_ex1_blinky is very simple project and easy to get started.

There are many C2000 workshop, training. Please refer to the training video.
