TMS320F28031: CAN Device Address

Part Number: TMS320F28031

Customer using TMS320F28031 understand it is a Class A device as per SPRACD0A C2000™ Unique Device Number Application Note.  Originally they wanted to use the pseudo-unique number to identify and assign device address on local CAN bus.   However given the pseudo-unique nature and possibility of repeated number there is concern of the risk looking for some way to quantify it.

Is there any alternative option for a more unique CAN device address?

  • Lawrence,

In CAN, we talk of Message-ID (MSGID) for the mailboxes, not "device" address. I presume customer is trying to use the pseudo-unique number and assign it as the MSGID for a mailbox and concerned (rightly so) that two transmit mailboxes may end up having the same ID, which is never a good idea. It is hard to "quantify" the risk as the app.note makes it clear that the number is only pseudo unique. Please feel free to reach out to me offline, if you want to discuss further.
