BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV: Faulty BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV from mouser (order No. 18731772)

Part Number: BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28379D, LAUNCHXL-F28069M

i purchased MFG Part No: BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV from mouser (order No. 18731772) april 2020. They directed me to contact Ti Support.

Board isnt functional or working as described in user manual/quick start guides. Apparently N1 (MOSFETs) on the board are switching even connectors near it aren't presenting any change/switching what so all.

I have followed the guides and videos (youtube, matlab) but nothing seems to be working. Kindly guide with the further proceedings.

  • farooq,

Can you describe which LaunchPads you have tried and using which software releases?  Do you have other LaunchPads available to try?

Can you clarify if N1 is or is not switching?

  • I have used launchpads "LAUNCHXL-F28379D" and "LAUNCHXL-F28069M". Both are correctly switching on the desired PWMs. but N1 is as good as dead. I have used in built examples of control suit and CCS v6 also i have followed Ti own examples of Control suit for F28069M and matlab examples for F28379D. I have checked with oscilloscope N1 is as good as dead whereas, controller part is properly working with ADCs with correct values but no switching of N1 and so consequent potential/current of buck converter network of inductor and capacitor

  • farooq,

Thanks for the additional background information.

Are you able to sense the correct VinFB supply voltage on the ADC?  Does the green LD1 light turn on when toggle switch SW1 is on?

    -Tommy

P.S. Sorry, I don't know how this was marked as a Suggested Answer.

  • Many thanks for the followup.

I can correctly sense ADC value for supply voltage i varied it much and found it correct. LD1 lights up as well on flick of SW1.

No worries as long as problem can be resolved.

  • farooq,

It does sound like something is malfunctioning with your board.

Remedies for faulty hardware are handled by the seller (Mouser in your case).  My understanding is that most sellers require TI diagnostics to confirm that the board is defective, which we have done here, before taking action.  Please check with Mouser for your options.

  • Thank you so much. I hope they will be okay with the diagnostic in hand.
