TIDM-BIDIR-400-12: up sizing TIDM-BIDIR-400-12 to 1KW power

Part Number: TIDM-BIDIR-400-12
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21530

Hello,

I have successfully tested TIDM-BIDIR-400-12 for 300W,

my question is how i can redesign with reference from TIDM-BIDIR-400-12 for 1KW output with same input&output voltage ?

  • Rafeeq,

I'm working to identify the correct resource in TI to help answer the above.  You should expect a reply by tomm at the latest.

  • Hi Rafeeq,

For the PCMC and feedback control design, there is little change with change of power level. One thing you may need to change in the control loop is the current sensor and its AFE circuit.

First thing you will need to do is redesign the magnets (mainly the transformer and inductor) to meet the power / current target of your system. In our experience, one key thing to keep in mind in PSFB transformer is to minimize the inter-winding capacitance, as this may lead to oscillation in current feedback.

Also, since the current will be much higher in a 1 kW design, you may also need to replace the corresponding FETs to accommodate the higher current. Especially for secondary SR FET, you may need multiple FETs configured in parallel to increase the current capacity.

For new designs, it is recommended to use isolated gate driver as primary FET driver. You may consider TI gate driver such as UCC21530.

Since 1kW output in 12V will be near 100A, PCB trace may not be able to carry the current. Bus-bar may be needed as part of the power design. You may also change the input / out capacitor values based on your ripple tolerance.

In our experience, it is always a good idea to simulate the power stage design in different working condition before hardware testing.

Hope this will help. Please let me know if you have other questions or contact your local sales team for further support. Thanks.

    Best regards,
