TMS320F280049C: SPI for CLB in T-Format Absolute-Encoder Master Interface Reference Design (TIDM-1011)

Part Number: TMS320F280049C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-1011

Hello Champs,

As illustrated in Figure 4 of TIDM-1011 user guide(www.ti.com/lit/tidue74b), since there are only Data_IN and Data_OUT signals and no clock signal in T-format encoder, does it mean that it’s not necessary for GPIO7 and GPIO26 connection?

If so, would you please kindly suggest whether SPI can be replaced by other kind of interface or not in this T-format absolute encoder master interface reference solution?

If yes, would you please kindly suggest which kind of communication port can be used instead?

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Linda

No, the signals are necessary.  The GPIO7-GPIO26 connection is required for the CLB to clock the SPI peripheral.

We selected SPI because a communications port is required and the SPI clock is easy to manage with CLB logic.  The reference design is architected around leveraging the SPI peripheral - if another port were to be used it would require a re-working of the reference design and I'm not confident it is possible.
