TMDSCNCD28388D: New to TI and C2000, USB Descriptor D

Hello All,

I am a user new to TI, coming from Microchip. I noticed while looking into the TI packages that there is a descriptor tool that builds the descriptor source for the MSP line (MSP430USBDEVPACK). Is there anything similar to this for the C2000ware? The HID Device I am looking to develop doesn't exactly fit in the example devices provided in the sample code. Before I start peeling back and modifying something close I wanted to check in and see if I was missing something. Thanks in advance

Hi Mark,

There is nothing similar to MSP430USBDEVPACK in C2000Ware. We do provide USB examples in C2000Ware and these are located in the folder

C:\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_3_04_00_00\driverlib\f2838x\examples\c28x\usb for C28x Core and

C:\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_3_04_00_00\driverlib\f2838x\examples\cm\usb for CM core.

You can refer these to get started.

Wondering if anyone can explain what is happening in the below code example. Specifically the (void *)&g_sMouseDevice, line. This can be found on line 132 in the usb_ex2_dev_mouse example.

Hi Mark,

(void *)&g_sMouseDevice is the call back data that is sent o the call back function. It is the first parameter in all calls made to the mouse callback function "MouseHandler".

Thanks for the information Siddharth. I guess the way this driver/stack is written is just above my understanding. I have not used callback functions so I will try to read up on them. Is there any documentation on this USB stack that explains step by step what is happening? There is so much data scattered all over but I cant really make sense of this stack. I attempted to modify the sample code but not understanding what is really happening (or supposed to happen) makes this very difficult for someone new to this platform. Thanks

Hi Mark,

There is a user guide located in C:\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_3_04_00_00\libraries\communications\usb\f2838x\docs folder which you can refer. It provides description of the API's and overview of the different classes supported.

I would recommend you to run the examples provided to get a better understanding.

Hi Siddarth,

I have found an error in the F2838x_USBL_UG.PDF document. Please pass this on to the documentation team. It seems as though the USB IF has changed their documentation links. On page 57 of the document there is a reference to http://www.usb.org/developers/devclass_docs/HID1_11.pdf.. However, this link is no longer active. I believe the correct link now is https://www.usb.org/document-library/device-class-definition-hid-111.
