Need suggestion regarding Digital Signal Controller selection.

Dear all,

I am looking for Digital signal control for a centralized control application including solar system, motor drives,etc and all. I have selected TMS320C2802 DSC. Here it says C28x is with ROM, while F28x is with Flash EEPROM. Shall i go with C28x series or F28x series.

I am new to the embedded design so what all the software, development, emulation tools, etc i need to buy to learn and develop the control application?

Please suggest..

Hi Karuna,

If price is not an issue; you can opt for TMS320F28335 controller (Very powerful and floating point). TMS320F28069 is the other option you can go for, bit cheaper. Go through their respective datasheets; also support for the above two controllers in this forum is immense.

For development tools for C2000, there are 2 options:

1. Docking station and control card (TMS320F28335)

I have to learn different features of TI IC and apply for my control application.

So, are those the experimental start up kits that u suggested.

How about TMS320F28335 eZdsp Starter Kit ?

and TMS320F28335 control card doesn't have JTAG Emulator, whether that can be purchased separately from TI.

Karuna,

Experimenter Kits are kits which contain a controlCARD and a fanout baseboard. An emulator is built into the baseboard.

Note that there are also several controlCARD-based kits for motor control and solar applications (if that is of interest). For more information, all our software, documentation, sch, etc for these is all located within our delivery package: controlSUITE.

controlSTICKs also have a built-in emulator. eZDSPs are good evaluation tools as well, they're just usually more expensive.

While I like the F28069 as the baseline R&D chip to work from, when it comes to the solar and motor software in controlSUITE the F28035 has the broadest support for drivers, libraries, and working system solutions. It's really not close.

Now, porting up to an F2806x isn't THAT difficult, but just want you to be aware.

On the motor side all of the controlSUITE SW runs on F28035 (some dual built for F28069, some on F28335).

If you want to use InstaSPIN-FOC you would need to select F28069M (also lets you use InstaSPIN-MOTION) or F28027 controlCARDS.
