28377D Unable to access device register

Today I got the following error and I am unable to load any program on my device.

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -2131 @ 0x0)
Unable to access device register. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK).
(Emulation package 6.0.83.1)

I have had this happen before and was never able to use the board again. Also, my colleagues have also had this error on their boards and they also had to move to another device. What is happening here? Can this board be fixed?

  • Hi Adam,

First, can I confirm that you were able to connect to these boards?  (ie they were able to connect and at some point stopped)

Did you see any strangeness before the chips started no longer loading/connecting?

    ===

Next, how are you trying to connect?  Can you try separating the connect step from the load step in CCS (assuming you are currently using the 'bug' button to do all this)?

If you do this, are you able to connect?

    • If not, does the chip or any other components on the board get hot?  Are power supplies good?  Can you reconfirm your emulator connections?  Can you try to change the device's boot mode to 'wait' or 'boot-from-SCI' boot mode and then retry?
    • If you are, try to load your program.  What happens?
      • If the program loads, great!
      • If the program does not load, what happens if you try and look at flash memory in the watch window?
        • If much of the FLASH memory appears blank (0x0000), then it is likely that security somehow got enabled and the flash is now locked.
        • If the FLASH memory is non-zero, then it appears that the flash is not locked.  Can you confirm the power supplies are valid while flashing the device?

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,

Yes I was able to connect to the device before. No I did not notice anything unusual from the device before this happened. I had been away for a few week and when I came back and tried to debug the program I was not able to connect. I also tried another card and am now getting the same error on it! However, I was able to connect to another 28377d through a TI JTAG emulator.

I tried to follow your instructions in the other post but when I right click on the target configuration there is no option to "Launch Selected Configuration". I have attached a screenshot. When I double click on the target configuration and click  Test Connection it fails the test.

Please help, I am loosing too many cards to this.

  • Oops I did not notice the power switch had gotten moved on my docking station. Problem solved!
