LAUNCHXL-F28379D: LaunchPad will support to boot from CAN?? Please clarify

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

Hi all,

The GPIO12 and 17 mux possibilities are as follows:

GPIO12- GPIO12/EPWM7A/CANTXB/MDXB/EQEP1S/SCITXDC/UPP-ENA
GPIO17-GPIO17/SPISOMIA/CANRXB/OUTPUTXBAR8/EPWM9B/SD1_C1/UPP-D3

As per the note form the TRM the first instance of a peripheral CANA only support the CAN boot, but in the schematic it was wired to CANB

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notes :All the peripheral boot modes that are supported use the first instance of the peripheral
module (SCIA, SPIA, I2CA, CANA, and so forth). Whenever these boot modes are referred
to in this chapter, such as SCI boot, it is actually referring to the first module instance,
meaning the SCI boot on the SCIA port. The same applies to the other peripheral boots.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GPIO4 AND 5 are used for Timer caputre J1 pin 36 and 35 (Refer page no 6 in the attached  schematic file).

Is it possible to configure it for CANA,

My application requires to boot the board from CAN, Is there any way can we do this???

If possible do we need any extra connector or booster pack??? Please suggest the same.

GPIO4 - GPIO5/EPWM3B/MFSRA/OUTPUTXBAR3/CANRXA

GPIO5 - GPIO4/EPWM3A/OUTPUTXBAR3/CANTXA

  • Hi Ashok,

In LAUNCHXL-F28379D : CANB has been connected to the CAN Transceiver thus in the schematic it is wired to CANB.
For CAN Boot you can either use GPIO 70 and GPIO 71 or use GPIO 36 and GPIO37 which can be configured for CANA but you will have to connect an external CAN Transceiver to use it.

Otherwise you can use F28377S LaunchPad which has CANA wired to the CAN Transceiver from where it can be used directly.

  • Hi Harshmeet Singh,

Thank you for you are reply.

I checked GPIO 70 and GPIO 71 routed to J9 connector, may I know what it is?, Is it possible to tap those pins, will it affect the J9 ??

Looks like the GPIOI 36 and GPIO 37 can be used, which are not routed , Please let me know is it possible?

I have F28379D Experiment kit(docking station and Control card) also, with out CAN Transceiver is it possible for CAN boot.

    Thanks
  • Hi Ashok,

In LAUNCHXL-F28379D GPIO 70 and 71 as well as well as GPIO 36 and 37 are all on J9 Connector. You can connect to any of them using CAN Transceiver.

F28379D Experiment kit also requires CAN Transceivers.
The Launchpads have one CAN Transceiver so if you want a transceiver for CANA on chip you'll have to use F28377S LaunchPad otherwise an external CAN Transceiver has to be connected.

    Thanks
    Harshmeet
  • Hi Harshmeet Singh,

Thank you for you are quick reply.

Please can you provide me a product ID code for CAN transceiver to support both  Launchpad F28379D and controlcard to boot from a CANA.

The requirement is PC based application should be able to boot a launchpad or controlcard using CAN.

    Thanks.

  • LAUNCHXL-F28379D_SILK_TOP_160415.zipHi Harshmeet Singh,

PFA.,Could not able to find J9 connector details on PCB layout schematic.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ashok,

Can you please check at the bottom of the LAUNCHXL-F28379D you'll be able to find J9.

    Regards,
    Harshmeet
  • Hi Singh,

    Thanks for you are reply.

Please let me know what kind of connector has to use to tap GPIO70, 71 OR GPIO36,37 signals with CANA enabled , if possible provide me the connector code ID also.

    Thanks
