TMDSDOCK28069: How to use XDS200 JTAG tool, documentation

Part Number: TMDSDOCK28069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Is there any documentation for the TMDSDOCK28069 kit regarding how to use the XDS200 JTAG debug probe instead of the built in onboard USB JTAG debug interface? I just purchased a new XDS200 in preparation for use with our first PCB prototype hardware coming soon, and I wanted to try the XDS200 on the TMDSDOCK28069 as a reference if possible. I am also using CCSv7 currently with the kit's built in USB debug port.

  • Hi Robert,

You shouldn't have much trouble.  There is a 14-pin JTAG header on this kit and you can connect your debug probe there.  You'd then need to set up your CCS target configuration correctly.

My one suggestion that might not be obvious, is that I would recommend putting a jumper on the Docking Station baseboard's J8.  This will hold the xds100v1 (the FTDI) chip in reset .  This will [A] prevent Windows from getting confused because of multiple debug probes connected and [B] prevent any chances of contention.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,

Thanks for the tip re. J8.

Do I still need to have the USB device/debug port connected to my PC in order to provide power? Or must I use a separate power supply when using the JTAG debug port only.

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

You have to power the C2000 device somehow - either via the USB port or via the 5V barrel connector, both on the Docking Station.  Either will work.

Please note that the schematics for this board can be found inside controlSUITE at:

    Thank you,
