TMS320F28075: Differences between hardware c2000-gang programmer.

Hi. I used to ask you a question https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/641929. 

Now I have a new problem:

If I programm controller c2000-gang (hardware rev 1.02), then the result is successful. But if I use c2000-gang (hardware rev 1.04) an error occurs ("Error 69 DSP F/W Start"). I read the post https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/464706, which says that the problem in "BOOTMODE" and "on fresh parts device may be going through reset cycle which could create issue". I use the standard mode when (GPIO72/GPIO84 = 1/1). I can solve the problem by changing the boot mode controller?

    Hi Bolotnikov,

    Yes, please try wait boot mode and see if that helps.

    I will inquire regarding Error 69 and let you know.

    The pins (GPIO 72 / GPIO 84) are directly connected to (3.3V), and we will have to change the PCB to set the wait boot mode. This is a difficult task, and we must know for sure that this decision will help us. We have doubts, because we have no problems with programming the controller on c2000-gang (hardware rev 1.02).

    Hi,

    Error 69 -> downloaded firmware cannot start. When you wrote that all works with version 1.02 and does not work with version 1.04, then probably your target is taking more that 150mA. Please power the target device from external power supply and try it with version 1.04.

    That helped. But, i still have a 2 question:
    1) External power supply for each controller is difficult. We can increase the output current of the c2000-gang (hardware rev 1.04) (we have specialists for this task, if possible)?
    2) We can still find a c2000-gang (hardware rev 1.02) on sale?

    Hi Grigoriy,

    It is not possible to increase the current for powering target from the C2000-GANG. That would required hardware modification that of course cannot be done. The current is limited to 150 mA on each target separately (local LDO for each target). In hardware the current is programmable and limited to 30,50, 100 or 150 mA. For C2000-GANG the software is setting limited current to one value only - the maximum one - 150 mA. For MSP-GANG e.g. the limited current is programmable and uses selection only 30 or 50 mA (the MSP430 is low power MCU, not like C2000 MCUs).

    You can use one external power supply 3.3V connected to all target devices and in the C2000-GANG programmer disable an option - Supplied by Programmer. That will work.
    We do not have the C2000-gang rev 1.02. But if all works with hardware 1.02 then you also overloaded the LDOs in the Gang Splitter old revision. The difference is that in the old LDOs the current limited is related to thermal limitation inside the LDO and the short current can be even over 500 mA (LDO would be very hot). In the hardware rev 1.04 the current is limited to constant value when is overloading more that 10% of the nominal value. That means - in C2000-GANG the current is limited to appr. 165mA and the short current is also about 165mA, not 500mA as it was in the C2000-GANG rev 1.02. So - any way - you need provide external power supply in bot cases. One external power supply 3.3V for all targets is OK.
