Hello there,

I am currently working on Interleaved boost converter. I implemented voltage loop by PI controller, but it is not working properly. I am getting the required output, but as I change the input voltage, PWM varies accordingly, and output voltage changes. Though, the variations are there as required, they are not perfect. So, is it necessary to implement current loop also? means, what is the purpose of it theoretically ? can anyone refer me to the detailed article of it ?

Hi Akshay,

Are you working on the interleaved boost PFC converter with AC input? If yes, then the current loop is required because theoretically the current needs to be aligned with the input voltage to achieve best PF. Please refer to the ILPFC user guide in ControlSUITE or our latest Digital power sdk package and look for TIDM-1022 for reference.Thanks.

Hello Chen,

I am giving not AC input to Interleaved Boost Converter. The input is DC voltage. So, power factor correction will not be there. Then, current controlling will require or not ?

Hi Akshay,

Are you referring to any our C2000 reference design(for example, taking ILPFC code in controlSUITE as example)? Or it is just an independent question?

Hi Akshay,

If you are working on voltage mode boost converter, then you don't need to implement current loop. If you want to implement current mode control then you can either do average current mode(current loop + voltage loop, duty based) or peak current mode control(current loop + voltage loop, peak current based). You can search for related papers for more information.
