TMDSHVMTRINSPIN: Question about the ground of the board

Part Number: TMDSHVMTRINSPIN
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE

Hello,

I saw in the TMDSHVMTRINSPIN manual that if the board is powered by the AC line, the ground of the board is floating and the protective earth is not connected to the board, so I should not connect the ground probe of the oscilloscope to the ground of the board.

My question is what if I power the board with a DC power supply in which the negative and ground are connected. Will the ground of the board still be floating in this case or it will be the earth ground, so I ca connect the oscilloscope ground to it?

Regards,

Ata

  • The ground planes of all of the power domains are the same, hence proper isolation requirements must be met before connecting any test equipment with the board.  You should use an isolation power supply to the oscilloscope also.
