TMS320F28054M: Insta-Motion Software for PMSM Motor

Hi,

We have been working with the TMS320F28054M processor and we'd like to use those boards plus the Insta-Motion software to run a PMSM motor in the sensorless configuration. Unfortunately these boards do not have a voltage sense on the three motor phases. Will the software function properly if we substitute the phase voltage value with a derived voltage?

My thought is since we are pwm’ing these lines we know the voltage we are applying and therefore the voltage on the line. If this incorrect and will not work please let me know.

Adam,

The PWM based voltage estimation will not be very accurate due to dead band of switching device, especially at low duty. The InstaSPIN FOC typically requires phase voltage feedback. If you are only using the MOTION part with sensored FOC, phase voltage feedback is not needed.

TI have many reference design boards that has voltage feedback. If you are working with a TI board, you may want to switch to one that is designed for InstaSPIN.

Are you working with high voltage or low voltage motor? Is there a position sensor?
