1) Are you able to erase/program flash on this device using CCS?

2) Is this your custom board?  If yes, if not SDFlash, are you able to execute SCI echoback example successfully?

3) What is the clock value that you provided to the MCU? SDFlash requires 30MHz as per below guide.

I am able to erase/program flash on this device using CCS. I had programmed the flash on this device many times using CCS successfully.

It is my custom board. I am able to execute SCI echoback example successfully on this board when not using SDFlash.

The clock value provided to the MCU is 30 MHz as required by SDFlash. I shall go through the guide. 

Are there any specific pins dedicated to bootloading via SCI-A on the device? Is it possible to use different SCI-A pins for this purpose?

Thank you for the info.  Clock seems good then.

On this device, SCI-A boot loader uses SCIRXDA on GPIO28 and SCITXDA on GPIO29.

Are you able to resolve the issue. Even i am also facing similar issue in custom board of 28335.

My problem is Device is not resetting.

Even after I reset manually using XRSn pin, again it is same message.

MSG: Interface version 1
MSG: Unloading driver
MSG: Reloading driver
MSG: User must now get target to bootload state
MSG: Interface version 1

Pls suggest if there is any development from your side

What does this message imply?

MSG: User must now get target to bootload state
MSG: Interface version 1

Is it a default message or an error suggesting that the device is not in SCI-A serial bootload mode? This appeared when I tried to reset the SDFlash.

I had configured the device in SCI-A boot mode earlier. The boot mode select pins were configured externally.

Also, is the pulldown resistor for SCITXDA  a necessary requirement or is it optional?

Where did you see a pull down recommendation on SCITXDA?

I worked on this module long ago, but I remember I used to leave it high so that it won't indicate a start bit (low) when there is no active communication.

I think they meant that note for F281x devices since SCITXDA (GPIOF4) was one of the boot mode select pins on that device.

Hi Vamsi,

The mention of pulldown resistor for SCITXDA may be for F281x devices. I tried both with and without pulldown resistor. Both did not resolve the issue.

The SDFlash window shows these messages when I power ON the device and reset the SDFlash :

MSG: User must now get target to bootload state

MSG: Interface version 1

When I tried to erase the flash, this error message came: 

MSG: User must now get target to bootload state

MSG: Interface version 1

MSG: Connecting to target

ERR: Failed connection to the target

Is it because the device is not entering into SCI boot mode or is it because the SDFlash is not able to erase the flash memory? What may be the issue? 

The device works well when programmed using CCS. How can it be ensured that the device has entered the SCI boot mode when using SDFlash serial utility?

Since you said that echo back example is working fine, I would suggest to first erase the flash using CCS and then try SDFlash.  

As long as the boot mode GPIO pins are configured correctly for SCI boot, you should be fine.

You might want to try a lower baud rate to rule out any autobaud lock issues.

You can use an oscilloscope on SCITXDA and RXDA to monitor the traffic.

As per 2.2.17 SCI_Boot Function in TRM, once autobaud lock is established, SCI boot loader should echo back the autobaud character.  You can check for this on the scope.

I erased the flash using CCS and then tried SDFlash.

I tried with lower baud rates also. But there is no signal on DSO. It seems that there is no traffic on SCIRXDA and SCITXDA pins.

That means there is no character received by the device to establish autobaud.

I did not use SDFlash in the last 6 years. Did you check with SD on this?

Do we have to load flash API on the device or is it already there in a new device? When we program flash using CCS, is the flash API used?

Are the flash algorithms in SDFlash and the Flash API different? Should the flash API be loaded to device before using SDFlash?

Flash API is not there in the ROM of this device.

JTAG based CCS Flash Plugin (and UniFlash) load flash API in to the device.

SDFlash also loads the same flash API in to the device.

I tried with another F28335 device also. But showing same error message on SDFlash. Now I am using Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge device.
