CCS/TMS320F280025: COFF format Register cannot display in CCS expression window

I found the issue that device register value (eg, AdcaResultRegs) cannot display in CCS expression window while running F280025 project in COFF format as below picture. However the code variables (eg, index) can display well in CCS expression window, and register value can display well in CCS register window.

F280025 example project project from "C2000Ware_3_02_00_00\device_support\f28002x\examples" folder, I change it to COFF format and test by CCS v10.0

Could you help double confirm this issue? If yes, can we have solution to solve the issue, because customer would like to translate their F28035 project base on COFF format to F280025 and keep the COFF format for debugging.

when you are referring the register window, is the ADC module initialized ? Can you check if the clock is enabled to the module.

Yes, I am sure the ADC module is initialized and clock is enabled and ADC is working. Because I can see the ADC register updated well in register window, and also can get the right result from code variable. The issue is only for expression window, the register cannot display and show error message "memory map prevented reading..."

Actually I have try difference example project and get the same result, any register such as GPIO, TIMER .... all display fail in expression window.

Hi Terry,

AdcaResultRegs looks like a struct defined in your example code.

It is stored at the address 0xB00. The reason that you cannot display that is the address 0xB00 is not a valid address on the target.

Would you attach the object file you loaded for further investigation.

AdcaResultRegs is defined in f28002x_globalvariabledefs.c file which provided by TI SDK.

The address 0xB00 should be match with ADC register address in F28002x device datasheet as below.

I see that the address of AdcaResultRegs is on Program page while it should be on data page.

If you enter the expression (struct ADC_RESULT_REGS*) 0xb00, you will be able to view the register values as expected.

Are the pages specified in the linker cmd ?

Oh, you are right, there are no any pages specified in the linker cmd file, and all the memory just define in one group.

This cmd file is from TI example file in C2000ware SDK. Do you know if new cmd file will all use such format without pages specified for future new device. Does CCS new version can support such format to solve the issue in my post?

I browse resource explorer for F28002x and could not find the same example you are using.

Are you using a different version of the C2000ware ? We need to report this to the SDK owner.

The PAGE directive are needed for COFF build.
