TMS320F2808: Connection issue using SCI to download the code

Part Number: TMS320F2808

Hi Expert,

Customer uses SCI to download the code, and meets an issue shown as "the connecting with target failed".

On the board, the GPIO18 & GPIO19 are connected high level voltage, while GPIO34 is connected low level voltage refer to the Boot Mode Selection of datasheet.

Could you please help to analyze this issue, and is there any other thing need to take care?

Thanks!

Best Regards

Rayna

  • Rayna,

GPIO18 and GPIO29 need to be high. Your post says GPIO19. I will assume it is a typing mistake and it is indeed 18 & 29 that are connected high.

Is the SCI port otherwise functional? For example, if you run the echo example, is it able to echo the characters back to the PC? It is important to ensure all H/W associated with SCI is working correctly before further debug.

Are you able to privately share the connections to the boot-mode-select pins ?

  • Hi Hareesh,

Yes, you're correct, it GPIO29 not GPIO19. So boot mode pin is GPIO18&29&34.

The SCI communication is not successful, the data could be transmitted but not echoed back, when use serial port tool connecting with SCI-A TX&RX

Customer wonder if there's conflict when using GPIO29 as Boot pin & SCI pin?

    Thanks!

  • Rayna,

You should first get "normal" serial communications to work, before attempting to sue the bootloader. Specifically, you should get external loopback to work (through the SCI transceiver). If you share the schematics for the SCI portion, I can help.

  • Hi Hareesh,

Customer solved this issue by changing the SCI download clock from 10MHz to 20MHz.

    Thanks for supporting!
