Broadcast Command in Power Line Communication (PLC)

Which protocol/SW package are you using? What is the broadcast command/address being used?

We are using G3_SDK_Package_V7_4_1_6.

2.What is the broadcast command/address being used?

The source address is FE80::00 and the destination address is FF02::01.

We are forming broadcast command(address)  with reference to the document provided with SDK Package.

I am attaching that document. Please refer the last page of it.

Broadcast command is generating congestion in power line network. I have raised a query about it.

As per my understanding, each node in the network shall rebroadcast the broadcast frame once(till the Hops left field is decremented to zero). But a node will not rebroadcast the same frame twice. You can refer to G3 Protocol specification( Multicast/Broadcast packet routing section).

Even one time rebroadcast causes heavy data traffic on the network, as the number of nodes in the network increases, which leads to congestion.
How can I stop the retransmission though it is done once ?

Hello Shreyas,

May I know the topology of the network you are trying?  Is it multihop network or all nodes are connected directly to each other?

If it is not a multihop network(all nodes connected to each other directly without any attenuation in between) then set the adpMaxHops PIB attribute in the Originator to 1. This will generate the broadcast packet with adpHopsLeft set to 1. This will prevent others from retransmitting it,since all will receive.

Please note that this might not be suitable for a multhop/multilevel network.

We have already tried to set the adpMaxHops PIB attribute in base node. Still there is retransmission by service nodes.

How did you know which receiver is transmit back to your transmitter? 

And I want to know what kind of experiment environment did you use?

Can you please let me know the sequence of commands to be followed to set adpMaxHops PIB attribute ?

We had followed  the sequence mentioned below :

1. System Initialisation Commands

2. Network Configuration Commands

3. Set MAC PIB attribute command to set MaxHops = 1 (0x0D 0xC0 0x0D 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x01 0x00 0x01 0x00)

4. Broadcast Data transfer

How are you sending these commands? using GUI or using an external host processor?

All receivers are transmitting back the data. I observed signals on oscilloscope.
What do you mean by experiment environment ?

What is the command you are sending as broadcast? Is response expected from each node as part of this command?

How did you figure out it is the same command that is broadcast and not the reply from Service nodes?

I am using a Big DC where all the initialization sequence is done as part of DC application.

You will find broadcast command in the attached document. I have explained each field of the command.

According to document provided by Texas Instruments, reply is not expected from each service node.

I have observed power line signal during broadcast transmission, all the responses are same as command.Broadcast Command.xlsx

I mean how did you control your PLC with what program in your pc, such as  Zero Configuraion GUI which was provide from TI or anything else?

And you have many receivers transmit back, how do you know which signal is belong to which receiver?

I am using Zero Configuration GUI as well as external host processor.
Reply frame size is same as that of transmit frame size.
Number of replies is same as number of service nodes.
