TMS320F28335: TMSF320F28335 is a DSP or a Microcontroller?

Part Number: TMS320F28335

I have been reading about TMSF320F28335. At the product description site it has been mentioned as digital signal controller ( C2000 ). However, upon searching on google I have observed some people using it as a DSP. Could someone kindly clarify this. Also is TMSF320F28335 a good product for implementing closed loop control in a motor drive?

  • Hi,

I would recommend that you take a look at the following thread.  I think it will help to answer your questions.

With regard to your question about whether the F28335 would fit for a motor drive application, the answer is yes.  The F28335 has been available for many years and the F28335, in particular, is being used by many customers to do this exact application (primarily driving 3-phase motors utilizing FOC-type techniques).

If you're new to C2000, I might recommend looking at some of the newer C2000 families of devices - just because they will have some new & improved features which may be helpful.  For example, the F2837x family (F28379D) for very high-end applications or the F28004x family (F280049C).

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thank you,
    Brett
