TIDM-1001: TMS320F28379D

Part Number: TIDM-1001

Hi y'all

Seems that TIDM-1001-CAD files folder has fewer gerber files- does not contain INNER LAYER 1 AND INNER LAYER 2 gerbers . The pdf version shows them all. I am sure Altium design files could be a source to generate these but we do not have access to Altium. I can download after a lot of questions & THEIR CALLS, BUT WE DO NOT KNOW IF WE WOULD USE ALTIUM HERE.

Anyone can help to get the complete gerber files  for the 2 Phase Interleaved LLC converter board??

We need to build that eval board asap.

robin

  • Hi Robin,

Sorry for that. I think there was a problem with the export script we used at release time and it didn't generate the inner layer Gerber files.

I've attached a zip file with the Gerber files for the Rev. B hardware. This is the hardware that will work with either F28002x, or F2837x controlCARDs.

Please let me know if you have any other issues with the collateral on the tool page. I will get the Gerbers available there updated ASAP.

    Best,

    Clayton

    Apologize for the delay.

I had to change affiliation: kind of collateral damage control due to CVD.

.Pl make note of it. ( my new email is  robin@ganmartechnologies.com)

    Thnx for the gerbbers.

We will proceed with the  PCB fab right away.

One thing though: the EVAL board that Errol Leon let us have for this long failed last Friday. I wrote to him in complete embarrassment. The failure occurred at half power in closed-loop config. It is not power related. Nothing gets warm or hot in this design (::)

It coincided with an attempt to probing at test points T9(SR PWM) and T26( sec_Gnd) ...suddenly, output and other waveforms disappeared.

Upon further probing, I noticed PH1 high side drive was low, PH2 was ok.

Most likely, the driver failed. Pl see attached ppt for a bit more details.

Errol wants the board returned as soon as we have our own operational. That is perhaps a few weeks away. But we would like to repair the board before we return it.  I have asked him for getting the permission to do so.

Have not heard back from him.

Thus I am mentioning this to you.ph1_drv_down.pptx

Would you not want us to repair it?

Any plan to have this eval board on sale in the website?...because we can buy it out if possible.

    Let me know.

  • Hi Robin,

Sorry to hear about the COVID related difficulties. I hope you and your family are in good health.

No worries about the board failing, it happens. No need to be embarrassed.

I agree, that driver chip probably failed. You may also find that the primary FETs have shorted, if this is the case then the fuse will also have blown. I don't know why probing those points would have caused a failure, have your tried loading the project and running it again? TP26 is very close to TP25 and if you accidentally short them together it will reset the MCU and you will probably need to reload the project to make it work again. However, if PH2 is okay, then that would rule out the MCU reset.

Have you made any modifications to the hardware or the software? I've had this driver fail sometimes during software development if the PWM deadband values get too small.

You're welcome to repair the board if you want to and keep working with it until you return it to Errol, but we should be able to repair it on our side without problem if you don't want to bother with it.

    Best,

    Clayton

    Appreciate your feedback.

We have not modified any hardware. Our own version is still in fab- changes are there.

Nor firmware- our objective being to study the board and the firmware before we make our own.

Given the delay in getting anything done in time- I would like to fix it- make measurements so that our instrumentation results tally with what you guys reported in the TIDM-1001 document. Then our next goal will be to get the same quality waveforms in our own circuit/routing. Bear in mind the extra caution is because we have )1 Integrated magnetics; 2) Primary side GaN ; 3) SRs are also GaN so very eager to see "diode emulation" in GaN.

I will try fixing the board & in case of difficulties, let you know.
