TMS320F28335: XDS200 intermittent failure

I've had the same problem with both an eZdsp F28335 development board (http://www.spectrumdigital.com/ezdsp-f28335-board-with-code-composer-studio-dsk-tools-and-power-supply/) and a custom F28335 board. After posting this question, I was able to get the board to program three separate times before the failures started again, with no changes at all to the hardware.

Also, the link you posted is broken for me.

So I grabbed another programmer, an XDS100V3 that we had in the building and it connects and programs just fine. Does TI have a warranty on their probes? I think we've only had this XDS200 like a month.

Sorry that you're having issues with the XDS200.  I would like for you to download the 9.2.0.00002 EMU Pack from here and install/update the XDS200 and see if the issue persists. 

If you still have the issue I can help get you routed to get the emulator exchanged/returned.

Doing a firmware update to v9 was actually one of the first things I tried, to make sure it wasn't just old firmware causing the problem. The other reason I believe it's a hardware problem is that if the probe is left disconnected for a period of a few hours before reconnecting, it will often work again for a few connections before failing again, with no change to the programmed information. The new XDS110 I'm using now is working perfectly as well.

Would you be able to provide a case number so I am able to return the device? Thanks!

Thanks for trying this out with the FW update.

I believe you should be able to start the return process here https://www.ti.com/productreturns/docs/createReturn.tsp .  Since this was a purchase from the TI Store it should be supported by this form.

According to the T&Cs that I can find it looks like this carries a 90-day warranty, so we should be good there as well.

This was purchased through Mouser, and when contacting them for a return, we received this message back:

"TI requires you to contact them before returning the part. I believe they will trouble shoot then give you a case number to provide to Mouser:"

Is this correct information? And if so, is the form you linked still the one we would need to use?

I spoke with some colleagues, and they have had success referring the distributor to this post itself as proof TI agrees that the XDS200 is defective and should be replaced/refunded.

If you've already tried that, and they are sticking to needing a case number, then you will need to go here: https://ticsc.service-now.com/  and open a new case.  You can give this thread info there as well, but I know that system generates a number.

The most recent correspondence I have is that our shipping dept is waiting on an RMA number from the manufacturer to send it out.
