TMS320F28388D: Ethernet Interface using Dual Port RJ45 Connector

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

Dear TI,

We are going to use TMS320F28388D DSP for new application. In this application we will use Ethernet interface with inbuilt switch.

As This device has 1 Ethernet port, How can i use Dual port RJ45 connector for Ethernet interface for in built switch purpose.

Thanks,

Dushyant Rana

  • Dushyant,

What are you trying to accomplish?

I am by no means an ethernet expert, but if you are trying to build a true "switch" I don't think that can be done with a single ethernet device. I believe the definition of a switch would mean that it can simultaneously receive data from all of its connected ports, with one ethernet interface you couldn't do that.

Additionally I am a little confused what the point of a 2 port switch would be, being that you could just connect the other two devices together.

Even if this device is just forwarding information I feel you need two ethernet interfaces, because all modern ethernet interfaces are full-duplex.
