TMS570LC4357: Are there reference designs using the Data Modification Module for any TI Hercules processor part?

Hello,

I'd like to find out if there is any information regarding the proper use of the Data Modification Module on the TMS570 Hercules Microcontroller? I'd like to find out if there is a recommended way to connect two microcontrollers using the DMM interface with a master and slave interface? I'd like one microcontroller to be able to use the DMM to write information directly into the slave controller's memory. Are there any recommendations as to the type of interfaces needed to make this happen? There seems to be minimal information out there on the use of DMM.

Here's another post that includes an example of connections between the DMM and RTP ports. You can connect these from two different MCUs in a master/slave configuration.

Thank you for that information-- it wasn't exactly clear how to connect the DMM from the data sheet, or what exactly the DMM should connect to. I was kind of hoping for a block diagram, but I now see the signal names are basically the same for DMM/RTP, where one is a master and one is a slave. Can there be bidirectional DMM, for example the master on one side connects to a slave on the other, and vice versa?

Josh,

The DMM and RTP ports on Hercules MCUs are uni-directional in order to maximize the bit-rate that can be supported. These IPs are not capable of being switched to an input or output mode.

Just to be clear, if I have two TMS570s, can I hook the DMM signals on a "master" chip to the RTP on a "slave" chip, and then hook the DMM signals from a "slave" chip to the RTP on a "master" chip? Basically, can I have separate transmit and receive, where DMM_chip_1 goes to RTP_chip_2, and DMM_chip_2 goes to RTP_chip_1?

For example, with two HDKs, if I populate all four Mictor-38 connectors, can I connect J6 on HDK1 to J12 on HDK2 and J6 on HDK2 to J12 on HDK1, then have simultaneous operations of DMM and RTP?

Also, are there any software examples showing how to use the DMM/RTP?

It is certainly possible to connect RTPx to DMMy and RTPy to DMMx across two separate HDKs. We don't have a software example ready for you to use for this purpose though. I will have to look into our testing software database to see if there is an example that I can share.

Sunil, examples would be much appreciated! It seems like such a promising interface so being able to quickly prototype and use it would be amazing!
