TMS570LS1114: ADC input signal

Part Number: TMS570LS1114

Hi Team,

We are using ADC as safe input signal. The signals are internally switched to ADC1 and ADC2-bank.

What is the advantage of this redundancy technique?

What are the failure cases?

Is It mandatory to use ADC1 and ADC2 in parallel for a safety control unit according DIN EN ISO 13849-1 Pld (category 3)?

What alternatives do we have?

Regards,

Mihir

  • Hi Mihir,

The actual implementation of the input processing is dependent on the safety case. The two ADCs can be used to sample an input (or duplicated inputs) in parallel and then the conversion results can be compared by the application before the conversion result is used further in the system. This allows you to check if there is a fault in one of the two ADCs and then respond to this fault, again depending on the application's safety case.

    Regards,
    Sunil
